DD-WRT PPTP Setup Guide

TotalVPN work with FlashRouters.com who provide a great range of wireless routers pre-configured to work with TotalVPN. If you are looking to up your router game, or add a VPN router to your existing setup we highly recommend FlashRouters.com

  1. Ensure you have the following:
    • Access to your DD-WRT router's settings control panel
    • Your TotalVPN username and password, please note that your username is different to your email address and can be found on the dashboard here.
    • The TotalVPN server address you wish to connect to (Click here to get the server list)
       
  2. On the DD-WRT control panel click on the Setup > Basic Setup tabs
     
  3. Under WAN Connection Type, select PPTP from the dropdown menu
     
  4. In the field labelled Gateway (PPTP Server): enter the server address you wish to connect to (Click here to get the server list)
     
  5. In the username and password field enter your TotalVPN username and password, please note that your username is different to your email address and can be found on the dashboard here. 
     
  6. In the field labelled Use DHCP, select Yes
     
  7. In the field labelled MPPE Encryption, select Yes
     
  8. Set Static DNS fields to OpenDNS and/or Google DNS servers. Options are 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 and 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
     
  9. Click Save
  10. Navigate to the Security > VPN Passthrough tab and set PPTP Passthrough to Enable
     
  11. Click Apply Settings
  12. Navigate to the Administration > Management tab  and click Reboot Router at the bottom of the page.
     
  13. After rebooting, the router should now be utilizing TotalVPN and you should notice a new IP in the top right corner of your DD-WRT Settings.
